In The End
I’ve lived a life that shows, God knows,
In the mirror every morning.
I’ve spent my days at play, they say,
And I’ve ignored every warning.
I’ve tried to be the best I can
As best befits a mortal man
And I hope it will be worth it
In the end.
I’ve had my share of fun. It’s done.
Many hearts and bones I’ve broken.
If I’m to pay the bill, I will,
For every word I’ve spoken.
I’ve spent the better part of me
In hunting things I couldn’t see.
But I hope it will be worth it
In the end.
I guess I always tend, my friend,
To let the world go drifting by.
If it means I’ll miss my turn, I’ll learn
Or never need to wonder why.
I’ll wake each day and shed no tears
And never, ever tell my fears
And I pray it will be worth it
In the end.
